People Make the Funniest Ecards

Customer Services

It used to be that we had to settle for what a small number of card writers produced to add a little humour to business or birthday greetings. With ever increasing technology, that’s no longer the case. We can create our own eCards, personalised messages to suit our audience. And they can be as funny or as whacky as our imaginations allow.

We’ve been producing business holiday eCards for some time now, and we appreciate the humour our colleagues in the industry, and especially their customers, produce when putting together their online messages.

Take a company like someecards.com that lets you design your own ecards for a variety of occasions. One we like is the ‘thinking of you’ card that says: “Your online absence has me worried you might have actually gotten a life”. Or the one that confesses: “Happy birthday to one of the few people whose birthday I can remember without a Facebook reminder.”

Putting a little humour into your ecard greeting is one way to grab someone’s attention, especially if you are sending out holiday ecards for business. You don’t have to be all prim and proper – after all, if you can make your business associates smile it’s all for the better. According to CEO Colin Shaw on LinkedIn, humour is vital for building relationships in business and increasing the impact of what you have to say. http://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20130912113335-284615-using-humor-in-business-some-practical-advice

We don’t have to settle for a simple flat ecard with a few choice words on it either. Nowadays there are flash and video ecard messages which take scenes from old films or cartoons to add something different and memorable. One of our favourites is jibjab.com that lets you insert your own face into a scene with dancing cartoon characters. You can even add all your friends for an Irish Jig! http://www.jibjab.com/ecards/dances

There’s also this slightly bizarre singing Marylyn Munroe birthday ecard from funpunch.com but we can’t quite decide whether it is funny or terrifying. http://www.funpunch.com/Ecards/ChattaBox/card13f_2011.aspx

Of course, some humorous ecards can go a little too far and can actually cause damage to your business. If you have a slightly off the wall or earthy sense of humour then you probably need to decide if it is something you should actually share with your customers.

Opting to send a funny ecard and trying to gauge how well it will go down will depend largely on your audience. The best holiday ecards for business mix a certain amount of humour with something valuable and informational. If you’re sending to a small audience you know well, then you can more easily judge what they are likely to find funny. If you are sending to a larger number of people, who you don’t know so well, then it may be a good idea to curb that humour your friends find so lovable.

But, let’s face it, we all need our lives brightening up now and again and corporate Christmas ecards are a great way to give your clients and customers a quick chuckle and a boost to their day.
